Selecting Rod manufactures rods such as st croix rods, or other fishing rod manufactures rods
You may be shocked at the price of today’s top shelf fishing rods, but you don’t need to spend a fortune to get a rod that will catch just as many fish as the high priced models.
When selecting a rod, here’s the things you need to consider and understand:
• Length- A long rod gives you better casting distance and accuracy, and allows you to cast lighter baits. It also gives you better control and more powerful hooksets. But a short rod enables you to set the hook more quickly and works better for casting in close quarters.
• Action- Slow action rod manufactures such as st croix rods or other fishing rod manufactures work best for casting light baits. There a good choice for live bait fishing. Because fish feel little resistance when they swim off with the bait. Slow action rods also help when fighting a fish, because the rod bends instead of the line breaking. Fast action rods give you better sensitivity and a quick hook set.
• Power- Just how much power you need in a rod depends on the weight of your fishing lure or bait, the size of the fish and the thickness of the area cover you are fishing in. The difference between terms “power” and “action” is shown below.
• Modulus- The strength of the rod material is measured in modulus. In general, the higher the modulus, the lighter and more sensitive the rod, but the more brittle it will be.
Action vs. Power
The term “action” is defined where rod manufactures such as st croix rods and other fishing rod manufacture’s rods will flex mainly near the tip; A medium action rod starts flexing in the middle: a slow action flexes over the entire length. The problem is, The typical sales clerk say at a department store will refer to a medium action rod they usually mean medium power.
The term “power” refers to the rod’s stiffness. It takes much more force to bend a heavy power rod then it does a light power. For example If you use the same large weight, using heavy power rod manufactures such as st croix rods and other fishing rod manufacture’s rods they will bend slightly the entire length of the rod. Using the same weight, a medium power rod manufactures such as st croix rods and other fishing rod manufacture’s rods will bend about 20 to 30 degrees from horizontal, starting in the middle of the rod length. A light action rod tip will be bent at near 60 degrees from horizontal or better starting near the rod base.
