Your choice of fishing rod reel combos, and line will depend on the fishing technique that you choose. Anglers who regularly use several different techniques during a day of fishing often carry three or four fishing rod combos each set up with different lures or live bait rigs.
The following recommendation will help you choose your rods best suited to your style of fishing. My preference is spinning fishing rod combos and many of my recommendations and examples will reflect that.

For good sensitivity and casting performance , your reel must balance with the rod. Check the lure and line recommendations on your rod and reel combos to make sure they match. For example, if you attempt to use pflueger reels intended for 12 to 20 lb line with a rod designed for 4 to pound line, the rod reel combo with be butt – heavy. Too much weight on the but makes casting difficult because it interferes with your wrist snap. And weight dampens the sensation from a subtle bite.

When selecting good sensitive spinning rod and reel combos that include such manufacturer’s products as pflueger reels and st croix fishing rods Look for the following features:
• A rear mounted drag.
• Skirted spool of adequate size.
• A Bail with strong spring tension. If the bail does not close all the way, the line will ride on the bail itself instead of the roller. When you attempt to set a hook, the bail will open enough to let line come off the spool. Some of the best spinning reels have a spring on each end of the bail. Check manufactures like pflueger reels or numerous other fishing equipment manufacturers to make sure they have this feature on their reels.
• Free turning bail roller. The roller must turn when the line passes over it. If it does not, the heat and abrasion will damage the line and may wear a groove in the roller.
• Interchangeable spools most fishing equipment manufactures like pflueger reels will most likely include this feature, but make sure you check the manufacturers specifications before you purchase. These spools snap into the reel, enabling you to quickly change to a different weight of line, or to replace a half empty spool with a full one.
